River Bend Nature Center hosting Owl Moon Hike tonight

CALEDONIA — River Bend Nature Center, 3600 N. Green Bay Road, will host an Owl Moon Hike from 7 to 9 p.m. today. 

Explore the trails at River Bend while recorded owl calls attract real owls. Participants may dissect an owl pellet to discover what owls eat. Then sit around the campfire with hot chocolate and listen to the reading of the book “Owl Moon” by Jane Yolen.

The fee is $7 and all ages are welcome. Reservations are required, call (262) 639-0930.

Burlington church hosts free Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 26

 BURLINGTON — St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, 216 E. Chandler Blvd., will host the 18th annual free Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 26. A short prayer service is offered at noon.

This homecooked meal includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, vegetable, gravy, rolls, breads, cranberry sauce and dessert.

People who live within 15 miles of Burlington may place an order for their meal to be delivered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. To make a reservation, have a meal delivered or sign up to volunteer, call the church office at (262) 763-7482, ext. 21, and leave a name and telephone number. The call will be returned.

Commitments accepting donations for Operation Christmas Child

RACINE — Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child, a project of international Christian relief and evangelism organization Samaritan’s Purse, headed by Franklin Graham, has delivered more than 69 million gift-filled shoe boxes to needy children in some 130 countries.

Volunteers, donations needed for ‘Holidays in the Mansion’ event

RACINE — Volunteers are needed to help spread the seasonal cheer at the Racine Masonic Center’s upcoming “Holidays in the Mansion” event Nov. 21-28. 

The event, which will feature a variety of family fun and festivities, will be centered around eight holiday-themed rooms at the former historic Henry S. Durand Mansion, 1012 Main St. Volunteers are needed in a variety of capacities, with no experience necessary.

Event organizers are also asking for donations from area businesses to help fill the stockings that will be raffled off during the event. Proceeds will benefit Shriners Hospital for Children.

Racine Public Library hosting free events for children, families

RACINE — The Racine Public Library, 75 Seventh St., is hosting two free events for children ages 5-10 and their families.

Librarians will present family fun events in which children will hear stories of the season and create simple holiday crafts from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 24.

Free after-school activities scheduled for students in Racine

RACINE — The City of Racine Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department’s Magic Bus special game for the week of Nov. 16 is a “Turkey Tri-Fecta,” a three-point basketball shooting contest.

The Magic Bus is a free after-school program for elementary and middle school youth. A Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services vehicle staffed by department members brings special games, activities and events to the department’s five community centers. The schedule:

* Tuesdays — Cesar Chavez Community Center, 3:30-5 p.m.

* Thursdays — Humble Park Community Center, 3:15-4 p.m.; Dr. John Bryant Community Center, 4:15-5 p.m.
